Trail Description

Logan Canyon Trailhead
(1.75 miles – dirt and paved)

From the new pedestrian underpass head west down Canyon Rd. Go around the dam and at the bottom of the hill enter the Utah Water Research Lab parking lot. Cross the bridge and make your way around the south side of the building. At the back of the building the trail climbs west up the hill. The trail crosses the end of Summac Dr. before climbing to the top of the hill. At the top of the hill the trail dumps out in the West Quail Park. Head south on Quail Way and then east on Mountain Road. Mountain Road ends at the Logan Dry Canyon Trailhead. Logan City is working to find a better alignment for this section.

Logan Dry Canyon Trailhead
(2.8 miles – dirt)

Climb the hill on the south side of the road to the power lines, follow the fence south. In 1.4 miles pass two small caves on the east side of the trail. Two miles from Dry Canyon the trail passes the Fox Ridge access gate. The trail continues for another mile and then decends along the fence into Providence Canyon. Cache County is working to improve and sign the deer fence trail from Dry Canyon to Blacksmith Fork Canyon as part of the BST.

Descend the canyon road for 100 ft, then the trail climbs steeply above the water tanks and continues along the fence past a fenced in spring to Millville Canyon.

Millville Canyon Trailhead
(3 miles – dirt)

Cross the canyon road and climb over the locked gate to enter the Millville Canyon elk feed area. This section of the trail is closed from January 1 to April 31. Follow the fence past the feed barn and above the coyote research center. The trail turns and rolls down into Blacksmith Fork Canyon. Jump the gate and cross the small spring fed stream to reach the highway. Cache County is planning to reroute the trail around the spring.

Blacksmith Fork Canyon Trailhead
(6.75 miles – paved)

Climb out of the canyon on Highway 101. Stay on Highway 101 until it intersects with Highway 165, head south on 165 for until you reach 8700 South in Paradise. Take this street west down to the Little Bear river. (Someday the BST will follow a canal along the foothills to the valley, but for now this detour is necessary.)

Access

Logan Canyon Trailhead

Take US Highway 89-91 to Logan. Turn east on Highway 89 at 400 North, continue east until the road drops off the bench into the canyon. Turn right on Canyon Rd. and park at Canyon Entrance Park across the street from the new pedestrian underpass.

Logan Dry Canyon Trailhead

Take US Highway 89-91 to Logan. Turn east on Center St and follow it east up the hill. After Center St bends to the north turn right onto Mountain Rd. Follow Mountain Rd. to where it end at a small parking lot at the mouth of Logan Dry Canyon.

Providence Canyon Trailhead

From Logan take US Highway 89-91 south, at the Y at the end of town before the Macey’s take Highway 165. Turn left onto Providence Lane at the Maverick Store. Follow Providence lane to 100 E, head south on 100 E and follow it as it climbs a hill and bends to the east and becomes Canyon Rd. Follow Canyon Rd. to the mouth of Providence Canyon. Park in a small pull out 100 yards after the road changes to dirt.

Millville Canyon Trailhead

From Logan take US Highway 89-91 south, at the Y at the end of town before the Macey’s take Highway 165. Follow US 165 for 2.8 miles then turn left onto Mill Rd. Turn right onto Main St and then left onto 300 S. Proceed east until 300 S intersects with Canyon Rd. Follow Canyon Rd. to the mouth of Millville Canyon, park along the side of the road, the trail passes along the east side of the deer fence.

Blacksmith Fork Canyon Trailhead

From Logan take US Highway 89-91 south, at the Y at the end of town before the Macey’s take Highway 165. Follow US 165 for 5.75 miles then turn left onto Highway 101. Follow Highway 101 to the mouth of Blacksmith Fork Canyon. As the highway enters the canyon it crosses a bridge over the river, 50 yards from the bridge turn left into a small dirt parking area. The trail enters from the north crossing a small stream and a fence.

Paradise Trailhead

From US Highway 89-91 in Logan head south on Highway 165, pass through the town of Hyrum. Just before the LDS churchhouse in Paradise turn left onto 9000 S and follow it all the way to a water tank at the top of a hill. Park here and follow the trail as it continues down the steep hill and then back up the other side to the canal.

Avon Trailhead

From US Highway 89-91 in Logan head south on Highway 165, pass through the towns of Hyrum and Paradise. As Highway 165 enters the town of Avon it bends to the left onto 1100 S and then to the right onto South Canyon Rd (Highway 162). This intersection of 165 and 162 is the Avon trailhead, find a place to park along the side of the road.

Logan River Nature Trail

Starting .7 mile up canyon from the Logan Canyon Trailhead, this trail follows a pipeline service road to second dam, a smooth single tracks leads you further up canyon before dumping you out onto the service road for the last push to third dam. Four miles from the BST to third dam. Bikes are not allowed on the trail past third dam.

Logan Dry Canyon

From the Logan Dry Canyon Trailhead, follow the rocky trail up the canyon for 1.5 miles.

Providence Canyon

From the Providence Canyon Trailhead follow the road up the canyon for 3 miles to the old limstone quary. A steep climb out of the quary takes you to Providence Lake, Logan Peak and connects to Right Hand Fork of Logan Canyon and Left Hand Fork of the Blacksmith Fork.

Milleville Canyon

From the Milleville Canyon Trailhead take the jeep road up the canyon. This road connects to the same network of mountain roads as Providence Canyon.

Avon/Liberty Road

This is part of the Great Western trail. From the Avon Trailhead follow Highway 162 south. Continue on the road after it turns to dirt and follow it all the way to Liberty.
